In Ujjain’s Piplinaka area, residents are outraged over road widening markings. On Thursday, over 400 locals marched to the office of regional MLA Anil Jain Kaluheda on Agar Road to register their protest. As the MLA tried to explain the situation and leave in his car, the angry crowd stopped his vehicle. They led him to the BJP office, where women entered crying and raised slogans. The situation remained tense for over an hour. Notices issued to those coming under widening zone On Tuesday, the Municipal Corporation issued notices to residents along the Piplinaka–Gadkalika–Bhairavgadh route, asking property owners to vacate areas impacted by the widening within seven days. Local residents claim that parts of many houses, ranging from 10 to 20 feet, fall within the widening plan, which could affect both their homes and livelihoods. See 4 pictures of the protest… MLA said – Will try to find a solution During the protest, many women were seen crying and wailing due to fear of losing their homes. They told the MLA that we voted and elected you, but now our houses are being demolished. MLA Anil Jain Kaluheda discussed with Collector Roshan Singh over phone after listening to the protesters. He said that he will arrange a meeting between affected people and the Collector and try to find a solution to this issue. Residents’ pain – Where will we go if our house is demolished? Families affected by road widening now face the crisis of losing their roof. During the protest, women described their condition. Double burden of financial hardship and illness Local resident Sangeeta Bharti, with a choked voice, revealed that she lost both her husband and son, and now she is the only earning member of her family, surviving through daily wage labour. She does not even have enough money for rent and often cannot afford medical treatment due to poverty. Another resident, Mamta Saini, appealed to authorities to save her house, saying: “Our home is being demolished. If we lose this shelter, we will have to wander with our small children. We have no other place to stay.” She demanded that even if 10 feet of land is taken for the road, the entire house should not be demolished. Otherwise, she will be left with just a small room, which is insufficient for her whole family. Markings made according to 100 feet width The Zone-1 office team of the corporation has given notices to house and shop owners from Piplianaka to Garhkalika temple via Okhleshwar crematorium and Bhairavgarh jail intersection. Initially there was a proposal to make the road 150 feet wide, which was later reduced to 100 feet. Residents insist on demand for 80 feet wide road Local residents are demanding to keep the road width at 80 feet. They say that this can save many houses from demolition. Meanwhile, the administration is preparing to start work at the site soon.
