The third season of the Madhya Pradesh Cricket League (MPCL) is set to become more exciting with the introduction of a player auction for the first time. Modeled on the lines of the Indian Premier League, franchise teams will bid for players, offering local talent a bigger financial opportunity and a prominent competitive platform. The league, launched under the leadership of its current president Mahanaryaman Scindia, has witnessed two successful seasons so far. Several standout performers from previous editions have gone on to secure contracts in IPL teams. According to sources, the auction is likely to be conducted in March. The last date for player registration is March 5, while matches are scheduled to be played in June. Although the detailed fixture list has not yet been released, games are expected to be hosted in Indore and Gwalior. Players to be categorised; ₹50 lakh purse per team For the auction, players will be divided into four categories. Each franchise team will receive a purse of ₹50 lakh to build its squad. League officials believe the auction system will enhance competitiveness, ensure fair valuation of players, and increase overall interest in the tournament. Age limit in line with BCCI policy Players under the age of 19 will not be permitted to participate in the league. The decision aligns with the policy of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which does not conduct T20 tournaments for younger age groups in domestic cricket. The aim is to encourage budding cricketers to focus on longer formats, particularly red-ball cricket, during their formative years. Focus on performance in Inter-Divisional T20 Franchise teams are expected to closely monitor performances in the JN Bhaya Trophy, an inter-divisional T20 tournament. Strong performances there could help players secure contracts in the MPCL and potentially open pathways to major leagues like the IPL. With the introduction of auctions and structural reforms, the MPCL is poised to elevate Madhya Pradesh cricket to new heights, providing both sporting recognition and financial rewards to emerging talent in the state.
