In today’s Madhya Pradesh Crime Files, we bring you a murder mystery that made headlines across two states. What initially appeared to be an accidental bathroom fall in Narsinghpur district soon turned into a chilling case of brutal murder. The family claimed it was a slip-and-fall incident, but the truth uncovered during the investigation shocked everyone. Who killed Shikha — and why? Was the crime committed by someone inside the house, or did an outsider enter and flee? Here’s Crime Files Part-1. On February 22, around 4 pm, Surendra Dhimole was working at his farmhouse when he received a frantic call from his niece Khushbu. “Uncle, please come quickly… Shikha has fallen in the bathroom… she’s not well… we need to take her to hospital.” Surendra rushed to his sister’s house. An eerie silence filled the home. Shikha was lying unconscious near the bathroom. Her body was limp, her face had turned blue. He immediately called an ambulance and rushed her to hospital. Only 3 people at home Only three people lived in the house — Shikha, her elder sister Khushbu, and their mother Babli. Shikha was the youngest in the family. After lunch, everyone had gone to rest in the afternoon. According to Khushbu, she woke up around 4 pm and found Shikha lying unconscious near the bathroom. Both mother and daughter claimed they had no idea how the incident happened. Until afternoon, Shikha had been laughing and interacting normally. The sudden death left the family and relatives stunned. Doctors notice suspicious injury marks At the hospital, doctors observed multiple injury marks on Shikha’s body. The wounds around her neck did not resemble injuries from a simple fall. There were also visible cut marks. Sensing foul play, doctors alerted the police. When police reached the hospital, they too found the circumstances suspicious and sent the body for postmortem. The family continued to insist it was an accidental fall. At the house, police found water on the bathroom floor but no clear bloodstains. Postmortem report changes story The postmortem report dramatically altered the course of the investigation. Doctors found multiple sharp weapon injuries, particularly severe wounds on the neck. There were six deep cuts on her neck, and her trachea had been severed. There were injuries on the left side of her head and internal bleeding in the skull. Her cheek, eye, jaw and ear bore cut marks and swelling. The face showed signs of assault. Scrape injuries and blue marks were found on her elbows and fingers. There was swelling in the middle of her chest and additional knife wounds. Both legs carried marks resembling rope bindings. The doctor concluded that Shikha had not died from slipping. She had been tied up, stabbed multiple times in the neck with a knife, and then struck against a hard surface, possibly a stone. Was killer inside the house? It was now clear this was not an accident but a brutal murder. The key question remained — who committed the crime? There were no signs of forced entry. Nothing had been stolen. If there was no robbery and no outsider entry, was the killer someone from within the house? Police questioned the mother and sister. Both repeated the same version: they had slept after lunch and later found Shikha unconscious in the bathroom. They maintained she had slipped. New lead in call detail records Investigators then turned to mobile call records. They analyzed Shikha’s call details and sought location data from telecom companies to identify who was present in the area at the time of the incident. During this scrutiny, police found a new lead — the mobile location of a person who had never previously been traced to that area. The case, once described as a tragic accident, had now turned into a complex and chilling puzzle. Find answers to these questions in Part 2 – Did any outsider come during this time?
