On the occasion of International Women’s Day, a Saree Walkathon was organised in Indore in which women spread the message of cleanliness and a plastic-free city. In the country’s cleanest city, the event began Sunday morning from Nehru Stadium, passed through the Daly College route, and concluded back at the stadium premises. The programme was jointly organised by the Indore Municipal Corporation and The World Fitness, with a large number of women participating dressed in sarees. The aim of the event was to raise awareness among women about cleanliness, environmental protection and a healthy lifestyle. Participants were encouraged to give up single-use plastic and adopt cloth bags and eco-friendly alternatives. Participant Prachi Agrawal said that sarees reflect culture and values and convey a message of moving forward together with all traditions. Women’s Greatest Contribution in Strengthening the Country Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav said women have played the most crucial role in strengthening the country and keeping Indore ranked number one in cleanliness. He stated that women power has taken to the streets through the Saree Walkathon to spread the message of cleanliness and a single-use plastic-free city. Congratulating all participants, he expressed confidence that under their leadership Indore will again secure the top cleanliness rank for the ninth time. Appeal to maintain cleanliness identity The mayor appealed to citizens to stop using single-use plastic and actively cooperate in maintaining the city’s identity of cleanliness. He said that to sustain the milestones achieved in sanitation, participation from every citizen is essential. The municipal body believes that only through public participation and awareness can Indore further strengthen its leading identity in cleanliness. He also urged citizens to deposit unused items at Triple-R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) centres and join the “Waste to Best” campaign.
