India is set to take on the West Indies this Sunday at Eden Gardens in Kolkata in what promises to be a crucial encounter. With both teams eyeing a semi-final berth, the match is being treated as a virtual quarter-final. Former India cricketer Ashok Dinda, speaking to Bhaskar English, described Eden Gardens as a high-scoring venue. “It’s a 180-plus pitch,” he said, adding that the evening conditions could introduce a new factor, likely dew, which may influence the game. According to Dinda, the team batting first should aim to score well beyond 180 to put pressure on the chasing side. India’s assistant coach stated that the team has developed specific strategies for all opposition players. He also hinted at tactical plans involving mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy, suggesting that he could be used as an attacking option depending on match situations. “There will be some changes in the batting line-up against the West Indies. Our focus will be on taking wickets. The West Indies are a strong T20 side — powerful and aggressive. It’s a challenge, but we are ready to play fire with fire,” the assistant coach said. On the other hand, West Indies head coach Daren Sammy expressed confidence ahead of the high-stakes clash. “My soldiers are ready for tomorrow’s battle. We have plans for every player, not just one or two. Playing in front of 60,000 spectators at Eden Gardens will be challenging, but we are prepared,” Sammy said. With both teams determined and tactical adjustments expected, fans in Kolkata can look forward to an electrifying contest on Sunday evening.
