Five people were killed and six others critically injured after a head-on collision between a bus and an Eco van on National Highway 719 near Chhimka village in Bhind district late Friday night. The accident occurred around 2:30 am on a sharp turn near the village, triggering chaos at the scene as both vehicles were severely damaged in the impact. Vehicles collide at sharp turn According to preliminary information, the Eco van was travelling from Gwalior to Bhind carrying passengers, while the bus was heading from Bhind to Gwalior. The two vehicles reportedly collided head-on at the Chhimka turn. The impact was so severe that all 11 passengers in the Eeco van sustained serious injuries. Eyewitnesses reported scenes of panic and distress immediately after the crash, with debris scattered across the highway. As per the information, four people died instantly at the scene of the accident. Seven injured passengers were immediately referred to Gwalior for treatment via ambulance. One of the critically injured victims succumbed to injuries around 6:00 am during treatment, raising the death toll to five. The remaining six injured individuals are currently undergoing treatment in Gwalior, and their condition is reported to be critical. Police begin identification process Upon receiving information about the accident, the Gohad Chauraha police station team reached the spot and initiated rescue operations. Station in-charge Manish Dhakad stated that efforts are underway to identify the deceased. So far, the identities of the victims have not been confirmed. Police are examining documents and vehicle registration details to trace the families of those involved. Investigation underway Preliminary assessment suggests that overspeeding and the sharp turn on the highway during late-night hours may have contributed to the accident. However, police officials have said a detailed investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause. Both vehicles have been removed from the highway, and traffic movement has been restored in the area.
