Two women were seriously injured after a youth allegedly attacked them with a sword in Ayodhya Nagar area of Bhopal on Thursday. The incident took place in Shravan Kanta Colony and was captured on a CCTV camera. One woman suffered a deep injury to her stomach, while another sustained a severe wound on her hand. Police said the vein in one woman’s hand was cut due to the attack, causing heavy bleeding. Both injured women, identified as Vandana Sen and Lakshmi Thakur, are undergoing treatment at a hospital. Dispute over stray dogs triggered attack According to police and local residents, the dispute began after colony residents complained to the Municipal Corporation about stray dogs creating fear in the area. Residents alleged that the dogs often chased people, ran after two-wheelers, and barked at pedestrians, creating panic in the neighbourhood. Following the complaint, the Municipal Corporation’s dog squad caught and removed the stray dogs from the colony. However, some residents who described themselves as dog lovers allegedly got the dogs released and brought them back to Shravan Kanta Colony. This angered several residents, especially women, who protested against bringing the stray dogs back. The protest led to a heated argument between both sides. Accused allegedly threatened residents before attack Property dealer Surendra Thakur, who lives in the colony, filed a complaint at the police station against the main accused, Ashok Chauhan. In his complaint, Surendra said Ashok claims to be a dog lover and keeps stray dogs in the colony. He alleged that Ashok, along with a female associate, first misbehaved with women who opposed the return of stray dogs. When the women protested, Ashok left the spot and returned with a sword. Another associate was also present with him. Surendra told police that the accused threatened colony residents and then suddenly attacked Vandana Sen and Lakshmi Thakur with the sword. The victims suffered deep injuries during the assault. CCTV footage surfaces, police launch search CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced, showing the accused attacking the women in the colony. The footage is being examined as part of the investigation. Ayodhya Nagar police station in-charge Mahesh Lillare said an FIR has been registered against Ashok Chauhan. He said Ashok has been named as the main accused, while the identities of other accomplices will be confirmed after his arrest. “The accused will be arrested soon. The investigation is ongoing,” the officer said. Police are also verifying the sequence of events and the role of others present during the attack. The incident has created fear and tension among residents of the colony.
