families-will-not-be-allowed-to-stay-with-indian-players:bcci-remains-strict-on-its-protocols-during-t20-world-cup-2026

The families of Indian cricketers will not be allowed to stay with the team during the T20 World Cup 2026 campaign. This decision follows the existing policy of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which has continued its strict guidelines for overseas and multi-city tournaments. Ahead of the tournament, the Indian team management had approached the BCCI seeking clarity on whether players’ wives, fiancées, and families could travel and stay with the team. However, the board made its position clear and denied permission for families to remain with the players during the competition. The move is not entirely new and aligns with the BCCI’s long-term policy aimed at maintaining discipline and focus during major tournaments. BCCI clarifies its stand on family presence According to the Indian Express reports, the BCCI allows players to have their families with them for a maximum of 14 days only if an away tour lasts more than 45 days. Since the T20 World Cup does not meet this condition, families will not be permitted to stay with the team. However, they will not be allowed access to team hotels or player accommodations. India’s match schedule and travel plans India will play three league-stage matches at home and one match in Colombo during the T20 World Cup. The team has already played several bilateral series in the lead-up to the tournament, where family members were also not allowed to stay with the squad. The Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian team will travel throughout the tournament on a private charter. To manage food and fitness needs, players have hired personal chefs who will operate from nearby hotels and deliver meals to the team. Following that series, the BCCI issued several guidelines aimed at improving team discipline and performance. In recent years, especially during and after the COVID-19 period, players were allowed to have their families with them for longer durations. However, the board has now returned to stricter norms for major international events.
