More than 30 people have died after drinking contaminated water in Bhagirathpura area of Indore. After the incident, water samples were tested and work began to separate drinking water lines from sewage lines. Similar emergency work was also started in Bhopal. However, even after 25 days, proper water sampling has not been done and sewage lines have still not been removed from water pipelines. While the Municipal Corporation claims that the system is being improved, the ground situation tells a different story. After Dainik Bhaskar reported that drain water in Ward-70 was being called ‘clean’, the newspaper carried out a reality check. The team visited areas from where the highest number of complaints about dirty and contaminated water were received and reviewed the condition of the sewage and water lines. Understand it this way, the claim and the reality Line itself submerged in sewage in Ayodhya Extension, complaint of dirty water
Ayodhya Extension, located in Ward-86. Residents here are troubled by the problem of frequent sewage line blockages and contaminated water supply. The drinking water line passes through the drain. This drain is filled with one foot of dirt. There is also a joint in the pipe right here, due to which bad water is coming. Despite repeated complaints on the Municipal Corporation’s helpline, the drain has not been cleaned. Meanwhile, the water tank has not been cleaned for one and a half years. The underground tank is in a slum area where garbage is thrown. One and a half years ago, residents had the tank cleaned in front of them. It was then observed that the plaster at the base of the tank was peeling off, which has not been repaired till now. Even after repeated requests, when the corporator and municipal corporation officials did not listen, residents are now getting the drain cleaned themselves, which is costing Rs 3500. Sewer line also bad
New sewer lines have been laid in more than half of the Ayodhya Extension area, but the lines in front of houses from D-1 to 28 have not been changed. Only a four-inch pipe has been installed in it, due to which the line gets jammed repeatedly. Not only this, the plaster of the chamber has also peeled off, causing water to leak and damaging the walls of the houses. Oriya Basti – Dirty water found in chamber
The water supply system in Oriya Basti is in a bad state. Dirty water is entering the water chamber itself here. Because of this, dirty water is also getting into the water line. Despite making complaints, people have not received relief. Chandwadi – Water Line in the Drain
Many houses on the main road of Chandwadi in the old city are receiving dirty water supply. In fact, the water line that passes through here is inside the drain. In such a situation, contaminated water is also mixing with drinking water, which can create serious conditions. Now know, what happened in the 3 water hearings?
The first water hearing in Bhopal was held on January 13, the second on January 20, and the third on January 27. In addition, water testing is regularly being done by visiting wards. The corporation claims that so far a total of 7341 water samples have been taken in the city, including 3053 locations. These were tested in 8 labs. Most of them reported the water as pure. On the other hand, sampling in ward offices is just a deception, as only 1 out of 11 samples is being tested for chlorine. Meanwhile, 1245 leakages were repaired and 3694 sewage chambers were cleaned. Corporation Chairman Kishan Suryavanshi has asked for better water testing after the last water hearing. It is worth noting that 4 ground water samples from Khanugaon, Adampur Cantonment and Vajpayee Nagar in Bhopal have failed. ‘E-coli’ bacteria was found in the water here. Later, the use of this water was banned. The same bacteria was found in Bhagirathpura, Indore. Dirty water is still coming in these areas of Bhopal
More than 20 areas including Ashoka Garden, Punjabi Bagh, Prem Nagar, Ayodhya Extension, Prem Nagar, JP Nagar, Aishbagh, Barkhedikala are still receiving dirty water. Here, the water line is inside the sewage. They need to be replaced immediately. Rachna Dhingra of the Gas Peedit Sangh said that the Municipal Corporation should immediately improve the system. The groundwater around the Union Carbide factory is contaminated. In such a situation, they are dependent only on the corporation’s supply.
