In Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind district, a youth thrashed two alleged sadhus at Niranjan Vatika, questioning their religious identity and demanding proof that they were Brahmins. He slapped them, pulled their hair, abused them publicly and asked questions from the Mahabharata and Ramayana before assaulting them again. The crowd recorded the incident instead of intervening. The video of the assault has gone viral on social media. Actually, in the bypass area, 2 alleged sadhus wearing saffron robes were begging for alms. During this, a local youth arrived at the spot. He started questioning both sadhus. The sadhus could not give satisfactory answers to the questions, which angered the youth. During this, the youth beat them up calling them fake sadhus. In the video, the youth can also be seen saying that some documents with the sadhus are written in Urdu language. He raised the question that if they are Hindu sadhus, why do they have papers written in Urdu. Sadhus appeared scared and frightened after the beating The young man also claimed that there was objectionable material in the sadhus’ bags. People present at the scene at the time of the incident remained spectators. No one tried to intervene, which made the situation worse. After the assault, both alleged sadhus appeared scared and intimidated. Police investigating based on video footage Meanwhile, local police say that a case of assault with sadhus has come to light. Video footage has been seized. CCTV cameras installed nearby are also being examined. No one has the right to take law into their hands. Police said that questioning and assaulting based on religious identity is a serious crime. However, the sadhus have not filed any written complaint at the police station.
