Four people died on the spot after a speeding truck rammed into a WagonR car amid dense fog on the Gwalior–Bhind highway in Gwalior on Friday morning. The accident occurred around 7:45 am when visibility dropped below 100 metres due to heavy fog. All four people in the car died on the spot. Strangers traveling together The most shocking part is that none of the four knew each other well. Three of them had taken a lift in the car. They were planning to travel to Gwalior by bus but ended up sharing the car. “I’m about to reach,” she told her husband One of the victims, Jyoti Yadav (33) from Gormi (Bhind), was going to Gwalior before leaving for Mathura with her mother and sisters for Govardhan Parikrama. Her husband Hari Singh dropped her at the Gormi bus stop. From there, she sat in the car. About 20 minutes before the accident, Jyoti spoke to her husband and said, “I’m about to reach Gwalior. I’ll call you after reaching.” Later, when a call came from Jyoti’s phone, her husband thought she had arrived safely. But it was the police calling. The news shattered his life. Jyoti leaves behind two children. Other victims Saurabh Sharma, a BSc Agriculture student, was driving the car. The WagonR belonged to him. Uma Rathore (45) was traveling to Gwalior to ask for “bhaat” (a traditional wedding ritual) for her niece’s wedding on 10 February. Bhure Prajapati, a labourer from Gormi, was also traveling by lift. The car was to be kept in Mehgaon, brought late to avoid delay Sourabh Sharma, a BSc Agriculture student, also died in the accident. The WagonR car belonged to him. He had brought the car from Moroli Bhind village. His father, Krishna Dutt Sharma, had asked him to keep the car at his uncle’s house in Mehgaon and go to Gwalior by bus. When he reached Mehgaon, the fog was dense. The bus was taking a long time to arrive. So, he drove the car himself. He thought he would park it at Gwalior station and go to give the exam. On the way, Uma Rathore met him. He had given her a ride in the car. Jyoti Yadav, standing at the bus stop in Gormi, and a laborer, Bhure Prajapati, were also given a ride. After Gormi, Saurabh was driving the car at a high speed. The fog was dense. This accident happened after they left Malanpur. Why the accident happened Saurabh was in a hurry because he feared missing his train. Despite heavy fog, he was driving fast and overtaking vehicles. Near Bantu Dhaba in Malanpur, a truck suddenly came in front of the car. The truck crushed the WagonR, killing all four occupants instantly. Rescue operation Police reached the spot quickly. The victims were trapped inside the car body. A crane was used to cut open the vehicle and remove the bodies. Sadly, all four were already dead. Police removed the car body with a crane, extracted bodies As soon as the accident was reported, TI Maharajpura Yashwant Goyal reached the spot with police force and immediately started the rescue operation. When the station in-charge arrived, four people were trapped in the car’s body. All seemed dead, but rescue was still carried out in search of a possibility of life. The car’s body was separated with a crane. After this, the bodies trapped in the car were removed. All four occupants of the car had died. A relative of Saurabh Sharma, who was driving the car, is posted at Maharajpura police station, so he was immediately identified. Saurabh’s family was informed. A reminder of past tragedy This accident brought back memories of another deadly crash on 16 November 2025, when five youths died after their speeding Fortuner hit a tractor-trolley near Gwalior. The difference this time: four lives lost instead of five, but the pain remains the same.
