17-year-old gymnast Uzair Ali from Ujjain, representing Madhya Pradesh in Kolkata, died on January 28 after 14 days of treatment. He was seriously injured during warm-up on January 16, before the Gymnastics National Championship. His family alleges that the coach and manager abandoned him at the hospital. Uzair’s body is being flown to Indore and will be taken to Ujjain for the last rites. Awarded the title of MP’s top gymnast Uzair Ali, son of Mazhar Ali, who resides in Ujjain’s Jama Masjid area, was a member of the Under-17 gymnastics team. Since childhood, he was practicing gymnastics alongside his studies. Uzair, who had won several medals at district and state levels, had also received the title of Madhya Pradesh’s top gymnast. He was also selected at the national level. Manager said – ‘Allegations are baseless’ Ram Singh Banihar, manager of the team going to Kolkata, has called the allegations against him baseless. He said, We had reached Kolkata on January 12 with 43 children from the Under-17, 19 team.There was a three-day competition on January 15, 16 and 17. On January 16, the gymnastics competition at the BNR Center was from 2 PM. 10 minutes before that, Uzair was warming up, during which he fell on his head and got injured. After which he was admitted to the PG Hospital there.In the MRI, the doctor described it as complicated. The family members were informed about this. At 1 AM, Coach Sundar Lal reached the hospital. I met him.I dropped him off at the hotel; our vehicle was at 10 AM. The next day, I had to bring the team back. I was responsible for a total of 42 children. The Bengal government and SGFI cooperated.
