Following the Bhagirathpura water tragedy, the Youth Congress on Wednesday launched a statewide Jan Adhikar Yatra from Indore, raising concerns over loss of lives and alleged administrative negligence linked to the tragedy. The yatra was flagged off from Rajwada after Youth Congress leaders paid floral tributes at the statue of Ahilyabai Holkar and said the incident had deeply impacted the state, but accountability has yet to be fixed. Meetings with victims’ families As part of the yatra, Youth Congress workers will visit all nine assembly constituencies of Indore and meet families affected by the incident or those getting contaminated water. Youth congress leaders demanded strict action against those responsible for the tragedy. The Youth Congress reiterated its demand of Rs 1 crore compensation for the family of each deceased, and said the government must ensure both financial and legal assistance to the victims’ families. It alleged that no concrete steps have been taken so far. Demand for resignations Youth congress leaders have also demanded the resignation of minister Kailash Vijayvargiya and Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav, alleging that negligence by the municipal corporation and administrative officials contributed to the incident. Another death reported in Bhagirathpura, toll 29 Meanwhile, the situation in Bhagirathpura continues to worsen, with another death reportedly caused by vomiting and diarrhoea. With this, the death toll has risen to 29. Following the latest death, the victim’s family staged a protest against the administration by placing the body on the road. Family alleges medical negligence The 62-year-old Khubchand Bandhoniya died late Tuesday night after his condition suddenly deteriorated. Family members alleged that he had sought treatment at a health centre twice during his illness, but no proper monitoring was carried out. Angered by the death, the family took the body to the Bhagirathpura police outpost and staged a protest, accusing the administration of serious negligence. Slogans were also raised against local BJP corporator Kamal Vaghela.
