khandwa–vadodara-national-highway-collapses-in-barwani:3-meter-deep-pit-on-the-road-connecting-mp-gujarat,-pipeline-burst-suspected-as-cause

A section of the National Highway connecting Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat suddenly collapsed in Barwani, leaving a pit around three metres deep. Fortunately, no vehicles or pedestrians were passing at the time, preventing any casualties. Incident location and highway details The incident occurred on Sunday morning, around five kilometres from Barwani headquarters, near Chhoti Kasrawad village. The collapse happened just before the approximately one-and-a-half-kilometre-long bridge constructed over the Narmada River. This stretch forms part of the Khandwa–Vadodara National Highway 347B, a key route linking Madhya Pradesh with Gujarat. An estimated 10,000 vehicles use this road daily. Pipeline burst suspected as cause According to a passer-by named Nikhil, a pipeline had burst at the exact spot where the road caved in. Water was reportedly gushing out at high speed. It is suspected that continuous water flow weakened the road base, causing the surface to collapse. A large portion of the road around the pit was found to be wet. Immediate precautions taken by locals As a precautionary measure, pedestrians and local people placed barricades and stones around the damaged section. This was done to warn motorists and prevent any vehicle or person from accidentally falling into the pit, especially as traffic continued to approach the area. No officials or representatives on site By the time this report was filed, no responsible officer or public representative had reached the spot. Another passer-by, Vijay, expressed serious concern, stating that the road remains busy throughout the day. While drivers may manage to pass cautiously during daylight, the situation becomes dangerous at night due to complete darkness. He also pointed out that street lights on the bridge are not functioning, increasing the risk of a major accident.
