‘sachin-tendulkar-said-virat-kohli-can-break-his-records’:bcci-vice-president-rajeev-shukla-revisits-conversation-with-master-blaster-watch

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president Rajeev Shukla revealed that Sachin Tendulkar predicted that Virat Kohli would break his major records. Virat has established himself as one of the greatest cricketers since his debut in 2008 and has already broken a number of records held by Tendulkar. Virat recently broke another record that the Master Blaster held- becoming the fastest to score 28,000 runs in international cricket. He got to the mark in his 624th innings, surpassing Tendulkar who took 644 innings to reach that mark. ‘Sachin Tendulkar said Virat Kohli can break his records,’ says Rajiv Shukla Shukla recalled a conversation with Tendulkar at lunch one day, where he asked the legendary cricketer about who could potentially break his records. And the Master Blaster candidly mentioned Virat as his answer. “One day, I went to his house for lunch, and I asked him, I said, you have so many records, do you think anyone can break them? Then he told me, look, records are made to break. So, my records will be broken. So I said, ‘What do you think? Who can break your record?’ So, he said, I think Virat Kohli can break my records,” he said while speaking on a podcast. He had surpassed Tendulkar to have the most centuries in ODI cricket at the 2023 ODI World Cup. Recently, with his 52nd ODI hundred, he became the batter with the most centuries in one format, overtaking Tendulkar’s tally of 51 Test centuries. Virat also shattered Tendulkar’s record of most runs in a single World Cup edition (673 runs in 2003) when he hit 765 runs in the 2023 ODI World Cup. Virat also recently overtook Tendulkar and became the fastest batter to score 16,000 List A runs. While Virat could not eclipse many of Tendulkar’s records in Tests, the Delhi cricketer has established himself as an undisputed champion in white-ball cricket. Virat, not so long ago, also became the second-highest run-scorer in international cricket and now sits only behind Tendulkar. I said, do not do it. Wait for a year. At least make it 25 years in international cricket. It will be a record that you played international cricket for 25 years. He said, no, I think I will quit. And he gave it up,” he shared. Tendulkar’s retirement from international cricket came in a grand manner, with him playing his last match in front of his home crowd in Mumbai. It was his 200th Test appearance as India faced the West Indies and was attended by a legion of fans.
