Armed criminals held a family hostage and fled with gold, silver jewellery and cash at Raikhedi Dham in Vidisha district. The incident took place at the house of Brij Bihari Kurmi Patel between 12.30 a.m. and 1 a.m. on Friday. The assailants locked the family inside a room before escaping. According to Tyonda police, four criminals entered the house through the roof. When the house owner, Brij Bihari Patel, woke up, he was taken hostage. The criminals later detained his wife and son, Satyam Kurmi, and confined them to a room. Brij Bihari Kurmi said the attackers were armed with three swords and a country-made pistol. He and his son were assaulted during the robbery. Satyam Kurmi said the criminals made away with around 40 to 45 tolas of gold and silver jewellery and ₹8 lakh to ₹10 lakh in cash. See two pictures of the incident The family was freed after Brij Bihari Patel’s wife managed to untie herself following the criminals’ escape. Her hands had been loosely tied. She then released the other family members and alerted neighbours, who informed the police. Tyonda police station in-charge Gaurav Raghuwanshi said a case of theft had been registered and multiple teams had been formed to trace and arrest the accused. He said the investigation was underway and the suspects would be arrested soon. A forensic team has also been deployed at the spot to collect evidence.
