A leopard attacked and killed a 10-year-old boy in the buffer zone of Panna Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh. The leopard dragged the child up a tree and severed his head from his body. The incident happened on Thursday night in Jardhoba village. The boy has been identified as Shibbu Adivasi. At the time, his parents were guarding their field. Shibbu was going to a nearby hut to give food to his grandfather when the leopard attacked him on the way. When Shibbu did not return for a long time, his family started searching for him. During the search, they found his mutilated body and head under the tree. After receiving the news, a team from Panna Tiger Reserve reached the spot. The attack has created fear in Jardhoba village. Villagers said wild animal attacks are not new here and raised questions about the forest department’s patrolling and security arrangements. Father Bahadur Adivasi said, his son was studying in second grade. On Thursday evening around 6 PM, he had gone to give flour to his grandparents, who were living in a hut about 200 meters from the field. This incident happened when he was returning after giving the flour. We went to sleep thinking the child was with the grandparents, and the grandparents thought the child had gone to the parents. When no information about the child was found in the morning, the family started searching for him in the field. His body was found under a tree near the field. SP Nivedita Naidu stated that a leopard dragged the innocent child away, leading to his death. Police and forest department teams are investigating the matter. The body has been sent for post-mortem. Shibbu has four siblings
School Principal Durjan Singh said that Dev (Shibbu)’s father cultivates land on lease (batia). He has four children. Shibbu was the second son. He was a Class 2 student at Government Primary School Kalarana Tola Jardhoba. His name in school was Dev Adivasi.
