India defeated Pakistan three consecutive times during the Asia Cup 2025, but the no-handshake stance taken by the Indian team seems to have hurt people across the border. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently shared a promo for their upcoming series against Australia. In the promo, an Australian tourist is seen visiting the country. A cab driver reminds the tourist that he didn’t shake hands with the driver. The driver is then seen referring to India in a distasteful reference. This, despite the fact that India defeated Pakistan three times in a row, and PCB chief Moshin Naqvi has refused to give the Asia Cup trophy to India, which the team rightly deserved. Many fans on social media reacted to the clip, with Indian fans finding it unnecessary that the handshake incident was referred to in a series against Australia. While the video shows the Australian fan praising Pakistan for their hospitality, the last few seconds of the clip show the Aussie fan interacting with a cab driver. PCB stoops to new low in Australia promo “Handshake bhool gaye aap, lagta hain padosiyo ke paas bhi ruke the” (You forgot the handshake, looks like you had an encounter with our neighbours), says the cab driver in reference to India. Some called it banter, some called it a cheeky dig, but the most hilarious part is that the PCB gave a nod to the script. Despite being a cricket board, supporting such narratives shows the standards that PCB has set for itself. What was the handshake row? For the unversed, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav refused to shake hands with Pakistani counterpart Salman Ali Agha, given the history between the two countries. Operation Sindoor further deteriorated the relations after terrorists attacked Pahalgam, claiming the lives of innocent civilians. That’s not all, objectionable celebrations from Haris Rauf, and Sahibzada Farhan’s gun reference all but made it clear how much animosity there was among the players against India. Given the tension between the two teams, India refused to shake hands with Pakistan players after the match. Surya’s men even refused to accept the Asia Cup trophy from the ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi, who has since not given the trophy to the winning team, urging the Indian captain to collect the trophy from his office in Dubai. What next? India and Pakistan are set to meet once again on 15 February in the T20 World Cup 2026, with the match due to be played in Colombo. On the same day, the Women’s Asia Cup Rising Stars tournament will see India and Pakistan lock horns as well. So there will be two India-Pakistan games on the same day.
