Indore has reported another death due to contaminated water, raising the toll to 25. Hemant Gaikwad (51), a resident of Bhagirathpura, passed away around 3 AM on Tuesday during treatment. Hemant, also known as Bala, fell ill suddenly on 22 December after consuming contaminated water. He was initially admitted to Verma Nursing Home in Pardeshipura, but his condition worsened. On 7 January, he was referred to Aurobindo Hospital, where he received treatment for several days. Despite medical efforts, he could not be saved. Pre-existing health conditions According to hospital management, Hemant suffered from cell carcinoma and kidney disease. However, he was admitted primarily for vomiting and diarrhoea, and his condition deteriorated rapidly. Hemant was the sole earning member of his family, supporting them by driving an e-rickshaw. He is survived by four daughters – Riya (21), Jia (20), Khushboo (16), and Manali (12). Following his death, the family faces a severe financial crisis. Longstanding complaints ignored Residents of Bhagirathpura had reportedly been complaining about dirty water for a long time, but no substantial action was taken in time to prevent such tragedies.
