A robbery case involving the son of a BJP district minister in Gwalior was exposed within hours on Monday, after police found the complaint to be completely fabricated. The case had initially caused a stir across the city. The complainant, Krishnadeep Singh, son of BJP district minister and businessman Dara Singh Sengar, had reported that Rs 2.5 lakh was looted from him by bike-borne miscreants. However, CCTV footage and police questioning soon revealed inconsistencies in his account. Police find no evidence in CCTV footage After the complaint was registered, police scanned CCTV cameras installed in nearby areas but found no sign of any motorcycle or robbery. This raised suspicion, following which the Hajira police detained Krishnadeep for questioning. During interrogation, he confessed to fabricating the entire incident. The real reason: College fees pressure Police revealed that Krishnadeep, a 20-year-old BCom student at Amity College and currently in his fifth semester, had earlier received Rs 70,000 from his father to pay college fees, which he had already spent. On Monday, his father gave him Rs 2.5 lakh to deposit in the bank, partly for fees. Under pressure to pay the college dues and fearing repercussions, Krishnadeep concocted a false robbery story and informed the police. Initial version narrated by the youth According to his initial complaint, Krishnadeep had gone to a UCO Bank on Birla Nagar Road to deposit cash. While filling a voucher in a nearby lane, he claimed that bike-riding criminals hit him and fled with the money. He also claimed to have chased them unsuccessfully. Police rushed to the spot and launched an investigation immediately. Money recovered from a friend During questioning, Krishnadeep admitted that he had handed over the Rs 2.5 lakh to a friend for safekeeping. The friend was unaware that the money was linked to a fake robbery case. Based on Krishnadeep’s disclosure, the police recovered the entire amount from the friend. Police action underway Following the revelation, Krishnadeep Singh was taken into custody and is being questioned further. Legal action is expected in the case of filing a false complaint and misleading the police. Additional SP Vidita Dagar confirmed that the information received around 1:15 pm about the alleged robbery was found to be false during investigation, and the youth had fabricated the story himself.
