A 35-year-old CRPF jawan, returning to his village on five days’ leave, died in a road accident on Saturday night. The deceased has been identified as Suresh Verma, a resident of Halahedi village, who was posted with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Bhopal. The accident occurred about 1.5 kilometres before Halahedi village, where his motorcycle reportedly went out of control and crashed into a roadside neem tree. Left Bhopal with colleague on motorcycle Suresh Verma left Bhopal at around 12.30 pm on Saturday on his Pulsar motorcycle after being granted five days’ leave. He was travelling with his colleague and friend Rameshwar Dangi, who is also a CRPF jawan and a resident of Hinotya village. Rameshwar said that during the journey they noticed the motorcycle’s handle and some components were loose. As a precaution, they stopped at a showroom, where a mechanic carried out the necessary repairs. The two then resumed their journey at a slower speed. At around 7.30 pm, they reached Khilchipur, where they stopped briefly to purchase vegetables. Fatal crash reported minutes after leaving Hinotya village After leaving Khilchipur, Suresh dropped Rameshwar at his residence in Hinotya village. Rameshwar asked him to stay for dinner, but Suresh declined, stating that his wife Reena would be waiting for him at home. He then proceeded alone towards Halahedi village. Shortly afterwards, near the pond-side turn before Halahedi, Suresh’s motorcycle went out of control and collided with a neem tree. The impact caused the front portion of the bike to break apart, with the front tyre separating from the vehicle and the helmet also sustaining damage. Suresh suffered severe head and facial injuries and died at the spot. Death confirmed at hospital
On receiving information, villagers and family members rushed to the scene. Suresh was taken to Khilchipur Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. At the time, preparations were underway at home to welcome him, but instead the family received news of his death from the hospital. Family background and grief Suresh Verma belonged to a farming family. His father, Bapu Verma, is a farmer, and the family includes his mother, elder brother Mukesh Verma and other relatives. He married Reena Verma of Bhumka village in 2009. The couple had two sons, Rohit (7) and Kartik (3). After receiving news of the accident, Reena fainted, while the children are yet to understand that their father will not return. Police investigation and postmortem After receiving information, Khilchipur police station in-charge Umashankar Mukati and constable Rajeev Gurjar reached the site and began an investigation. A postmortem was conducted at Khilchipur Hospital at around 8 am on Sunday. Following this, Suresh Verma’s last rites will be performed in his native village.
