India women’s squads for the ODI and T20I series for the tour of Australia were announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday, 18 January. Harmanpreet Kaur will continue to captain India in both the limited-overs formats with Smriti Mandhana as her deputy, in the tour that starts on 15 February. Youngsters Vaishnavi Sharma and Gunalan Kamalini have earned maiden ODI call-ups, while Shreyanka Patil and Bharti Fulmali returned to the T20I team. India will feature in the ODI format for the first time since winning the Women’s World Cup title in 2025. Pratika Rawal, whose Women’s World Cup campaign was cut short due to injury, does not feature in either of the ODI and T20I squads possibly due to injury. Vaishnavi Sharma, G Kamalini earn ODI call-ups; Uma Chetry, Radha Yadav dropped India have handed maiden ODI call-ups to Vaishnavi Sharma and G Kamalini for the tour of Australia. Both the youngsters recently made their international debut in India’s previous assignment, which was the home T20Is against Sri Lanka. Kashvee Gautam has made a return to the ODI team for the first time since last year. Meanwhile, Radha Yadav and Uma Chetry, part of India’s victorious Women’s World Cup-winning campaign, have been dropped from the ODI team. Radha is also not part of the T20I squad for the tour of Australia. Fulmali, whose last T20I appearance was way back in 2019, has made a comeback to the national team. Patil, on the other hand, will be featuring in the T20I format for the first time since the Women’s T20 World Cup in 2024. The 23-year-old returned to cricket after a big gap due to injury and has been in good form in the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL). Arundhati Reddy, who was part of the India team that won the Women’s World Cup, has kept her place in the T20I team. The T20Is will be followed by three ODIs, which will get underway on 24 February. India will also play a Test match, the squad of which will be announced later, the BCCI said. The series against India will be the last international assignment for Australia captain Alyssa Healy, who had announced her retirement earlier this year. India and Australia will meet in international cricket for the first time since the Women’s World Cup semi-final in which Jemimah Rodrigues inspired the Women in Blue to a record win in Navi Mumbai.
