Defending champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), have proposed to install AI-enabled cameras at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. There was speculation regarding RCB wanting to change their home stadium after the Bengaluru stampede, which killed 11 people during their IPL 2025 title celebrations. Recent reports claimed that RCB could play their home games in the upcoming IPL 2026 season at Indore, Raipur or Navi Mumbai. Amidst these reports, the franchise has proposed the installation of high security cameras at the Chinnaswamy. RCB willing to spend ₹4.5 crore to install AI-enabled cameras at Chinnaswamy Stadium In a formal communication to the KSCA, RCB has proposed the installation of 300 to 350 AI-enabled cameras at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The advanced surveillance technology will empower the KSCA and law enforcement agencies to efficiently manage crowd movement, ensure disciplined queueing, monitor unauthorised access through real-time tracking of entries and exits, and significantly enhance overall fan safety. Chinnaswamy Stadium hasn’t hosted any top-flight cricket The Chinnaswamy Stadium was flagged “highly unsafe” for large gatherings by a report by Justice John Michael D’Cunha. The venue hasn’t hosted any top-flight cricket since the June 4 tragedy. Despite the Karnataka State Cricket Association’s (KSCA) efforts to bring cricket back, the state government remains firm on safety concerns, having previously denied permission for even the Vijay Hazare Trophy. RCB’s push for better crowd management RCB has further committed to bearing the entire one-time cost of the initiative, estimated at approximately ₹4.5 crore. The solution leverages advanced analysis of video, audio and text data to accelerate investigations and enable faster, more accurate decision-making. “Its real-time AI video analytics capability enables early detection of incidents such as violence, unauthorised access and intrusion, facilitating swift and effective law-enforcement response,” read a release from the franchise. “RCB has partnered with Staqu, a technology company with a proven track record in enhancing public safety through automation and data-driven intelligence. Staqu’s state-of-the-art facial recognition technology and intelligent monitoring of objects, crowd, perimeters and vehicles have assisted many State Police forces in their regular monitoring and investigations,” the release read further.
