Washington Sundar has reportedly been ruled out of the T20I series against New Zealand. Earlier, he was sidelined from the ODI series due to a rib injury. The Indian all-rounder had experienced discomfort while bowling in the India vs New Zealand first ODI in Vadodara and had left the field. He did come out to bat at number 8 and was at the crease as India won the match by four wickets. Washington Sundar to miss five T20Is vs New Zealand After missing two ODIs against New Zealand, Washington is reportedly set to be sidelined from the five T20Is as well, against the Black Caps. According to PTI, this development was confirmed by a BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) official. “Washington Sundar has been ruled out from T20 series vs NZ due to side strain,” the agency quoted the official as saying. While Ayush Badoni has been called up as Washington’s replacement in the ODIs, it remains to be seen who replaces him in the T20I squad, with the official announcement awaited. With Washington reportedly being ruled out of the T20I series against New Zealand, doubts might just start to emerge over his participation in the T20 World Cup 2026. Sundar has become a key part of India’s T20I squad and fans would want him to recover in time for the showpiece event that starts on 7 February. India will start their T20 World Cup defense against the USA on the opening day at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Earlier, Tilak Varma had been ruled out of the first three T20Is against New Zealand. The BCCI announced that Varma’s availability depends on the progress he makes during his ‘return-to-training’ and skill phases.
