Another death has been reported in the food poisoning case linked to suspicious sweets left at a hotel in Junnardev of Chhindwara district. On Tuesday, January 13, 72-year-old Sundar Lal Kathuria died while undergoing treatment. Earlier, a guard from the PHE department had also lost his life during treatment. The incident dates back to last Friday, January 9, when an unidentified person left a bag filled with sweets at a hotel located near the PHE department office. When the bag remained unclaimed for a long time, people present at the hotel opened it and consumed the sweets. Health condition worsened after consumptionReports suggest that three to four people ate the sweets. Soon after consumption, their health started deteriorating rapidly. All of them were rushed to the hospital in critical condition. On Sunday, the PHE department guard died first during treatment, followed by the death of elderly Sundar Lal on Tuesday. The sweet may contain some poisonous substance After the first death in the case, the family performed the last rites without a post-mortem. Since then, the administration has been continuously monitoring the case. After the second death, Sundar Lal Kathuria’s body is being autopsied. Further action will be taken based on the report. It is suspected that some poisonous substance may have been mixed in the sweet. Police and Health Department conducting joint investigation Upon receiving the information, Municipal Council President Ramesh Salode visited the hospital and met with the affected families. Block Medical Officer Dr. Suresh Nagvanshi said that the matter has been taken seriously and treatment of two patients is still ongoing. Police and Health Department are jointly investigating the case.
