In Jabalpur’s Bargi police station area, a mining businessman threatened to run over the Tehsildar with a dumper truck. Tehsildar Ravindra Patel and Mineral Inspector Vivekanand Yadav were inspecting illegal transport of murram soil near Manegaon when the incident occurred. Police later arrested the businessman, Rohit Jain, and seized three overloaded dumpers. Tehsildar stops dumpers for inspection Tehsildar Patel stopped three dumpers for inspection. He asked the drivers to show royalty documents for the minerals they were carrying. The drivers called Rohit Jain, the owner of the vehicles, to the spot. A long argument followed between the Tehsildar and Rohit Jain. The Tehsildar repeatedly asked for the royalty papers, but Rohit refused to show them. Threat to run over officials During the argument, Rohit Jain threatened the Tehsildar. He told his driver, “Run over him with the dumper, we’ll see what happens.” Some companions of Rohit Jain encouraged the driver to move the vehicle forward. A video of the dispute surfaced showing Rohit arguing with police and revenue officials while threatening them. Police seize dumpers and arrest businessman Bargi police arrived at the scene after being informed. All three dumpers were seized. A case was registered against Rohit Jain and his associates under sections 126(2), 296(2), 351(2), 132, and 221. Investigation is ongoing. Rohit Jain has been arrested, and further legal action is underway. Overloaded transport beyond capacity The inspection on January 9, 2025, in Manegaon village revealed mineral M-sand and ballast being transported beyond the allowed capacity. Three tipper trucks were seized and preparations were being made to take them to Bargi police station. Rohit Jain arrived with companions and tried to stop the seized vehicles from being taken away. Collector orders action against illegal mining Tehsildar Patel said that, under the Collector’s instructions, teams of Mineral, Revenue, and Police officials are taking strict action to curb illegal transport, mining, and storage of minerals in the district. Officials continue to monitor the area to prevent similar incidents in the future.
