A serious case of nursing negligence has come to light in the New Chest Ward of MGM Medical College, Indore. While changing the intracath of a 1.5-month-old infant admitted here, a nursing officer carelessly and sharply used scissors, severing the child’s thumb, which fell to the ground. The incident occurred on Wednesday around 2 PM. After the matter came to light, Dean Dr Arvind Ghanghoria suspended Nursing Officer Aarti Shrotriya. After the accident, the nursing officer felt dizzy. The duty doctor and staff present at the scene immediately tried to manage and suppress the matter by dressing the wound. The child was immediately sent to the Super Speciality Hospital, where surgery was performed to reattach his thumb. The family was assured that there was nothing to worry about. A three-member committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Dr. Ashok Yadav (Superintendent, MYH) to investigate the matter. The committee includes Dr. Nirbhay Mehta (In-charge, New Chest Ward), Dr. Rohit Baderia (Deputy Superintendent), and Dayawati Dayal (Nursing Superintendent). The committee has recorded the statements of the nursing officers and the investigation report will be submitted soon.
