According to media reports, VVS Laxman, head of BCCI’s Central Excellence, emailed chief selector Ajit Agarkar informing that Iyer’s rehabilitation is complete and he has been released. 31-year-old Iyer was included in the team for the ODI series against New Zealand. However, he had to prove his match fitness. Iyer proved his fitness a day earlier by scoring 82 runs for Mumbai against Himachal Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Iyer was included in the ODI team against New Zealand on January 3. He had started a regular gym and fitness routine in the last week of the previous month. At that time, all his reports were normal.
