AI reconstructs deceased woman’s identity in Gwalior murder case:Omelette piece on victim’s sweater becomes key clue; lover arrested for rape, killing

Gwalior police have solved a blind murder case of a woman whose body was found 8 days ago near Katare Farm in Narayan Vihar Colony on Bhind Road. The accused, a 26-year-old man who is nine years younger than the victim, has been arrested. During interrogation, he confessed to raping the woman after making her consume alcohol and then killing her by hitting her head with a stone. The case was cracked using a combination of artificial intelligence, a small food-related clue recovered from the scene, and extensive CCTV footage analysis. Body found with face disfigured On the evening of December 29, 2025, police recovered the half-naked body of a woman from bushes near Katare Farm. Her face had been severely crushed with a stone, making identification impossible. Blood-stained stones, the woman’s clothes, and a man’s clothing were recovered from the spot. Based on the condition of the body and scene evidence, police suspected rape followed by murder. While the preliminary post-mortem report did not confirm sexual assault, police are awaiting the detailed forensic report. Omelette piece becomes key evidence During the crime scene investigation, police found a small piece of omelette stuck to the woman’s sweater. Though minor, this clue proved crucial. Investigators decided to trace egg carts and food stalls operating in nearby areas around the time of the crime. Nearly 200 egg carts were checked. One vendor reported seeing the woman with a young man shortly before the incident, giving police a critical lead. AI reconstruction provides initial clue Identification of the victim was the biggest challenge as her face was completely disfigured. Police used AI technology to reconstruct her facial features based on available inputs. The reconstructed image was then uploaded to the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (CCTNS). A search was conducted among missing women aged between 30 and 35 years. The image and description matched records of Sangeeta alias Sunita Pal, a resident of Tikamgarh, who had been reported missing earlier and traced by police in November 2024. Victim’s background revealed Police teams travelled to Tikamgarh and gathered details about the victim. Investigations revealed that Sangeeta was addicted to drugs and had multiple marriages. She had separated from her last husband, Pappu, around two years ago. The name ‘Pappu’ was found written on her hand, which became the second major confirmation of her identity. Locals informed police that she was sometimes called Kallo or Kalibai, explaining the confusion around her identity. CCTV footage leads to arrest Based on the egg cart vendor’s statement, police examined footage from over 50 CCTV cameras across the area. One suspect was repeatedly seen with the woman at different locations. On Monday, police arrested the suspect from platform number four of Gwalior railway station. He was identified as Sachin Sen, son of Rajendra Sen, a resident of the Hajira area under Yadav Dharmakanta bridge. Accused confesses to crime During interrogation, Sachin Sen confessed that he was in a relationship with the victim and wanted to marry her. He claimed he suspected her of having relations with another man. According to his statement, he planned the murder in advance. On the day of the incident, he took the woman to the spot, made her drink alcohol, lured her into bushes, raped her, and then killed her by repeatedly hitting her face with a stone to prevent identification. Further investigation is ongoing, and the detailed post-mortem and forensic reports are awaited to strengthen the case.
