Police attacked by mob with sticks and stones in Guna:ASI suffers head injury, four cops hurt as violence erupts after missing woman sent to One Stop Centre

Once again, an incident of the Madhya Pradesh Police being attacked by an angry mob has been reported in the state. Several police personnel, including an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), were injured in a violent attack in Penchi village of the Chanchoda area in Guna district on Monday. Enraged villagers allegedly attacked the police team with sticks and stones, leaving the ASI seriously injured and four other policemen wounded. The incident occurred while police were shifting a recovered missing woman to a One Stop Centre. According to police, the woman’s family had earlier threatened to set fire to the houses of the boy’s family if the woman was not handed over to them. Missing woman case triggered tensions Police said a young woman from the Chanchoda area went missing on December 29. On Sunday, Beenaganj police traced her and brought her to the police outpost. Her family members and the man she had gone with also reached the outpost. As the woman refused to return with her family, police decided to send her to a One Stop Centre for her safety. Police reached village after threat of arson On Monday, the woman’s family allegedly threatened at the outpost that if she was not handed over to them, they would set the boy’s houses on fire. Acting on this threat, police reached the village as a precautionary measure. However, upon arrival, villagers allegedly attacked the police team with sticks and stones. During the attack, an ASI sustained a head injury, while four other policemen were also injured. Case registered for attempt to murder Following the incident, a heavy police force was deployed in the village. The injured personnel were given first aid and later shifted to the district hospital. Police have registered a case under charges including attempt to murder and obstructing government work, among other sections. Chanchoda SDOP Manoj Kumar Jha said further legal action is underway and more details will be shared later. Injured ASI recounts the attack Injured ASI Nawab Singh said he had gone to the village along with the outpost in-charge. When they arrived, villagers were already assaulting a constable, and the police team intervened to rescue him. “Initially, there were around 50 to 60 people on the road, but suddenly more villagers gathered and launched a coordinated attack,” he said. He also alleged that the attackers attempted to throw chilli powder into his eyes during the assault. Over 30 villagers allegedly involved The incident took place in Penchi village, which falls under the Chanchoda Assembly constituency, represented by BJP MLA Priyanka Penchi. According to injured policemen, over 30 villagers suddenly attacked the police team. While stones were seen coming from the front, some policemen were hit by stones thrown from behind houses, catching them off guard. Police continue to investigate the matter and are identifying those involved in the attack.
