An allegation of police brutality has emerged in Khargone. Police, who arrived to clear the roadblock, beat the protesters with sticks and shoved the detained youths into the vehicle by slamming them against the door. Several people were injured in this police action, while 4 to 5 people were taken into custody. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon on the Chittorgarh–Bhusawal Highway. Around 100 people from the tribal community were blocking the road, demanding medical expenses and 15 lakh rupees in compensation for a youth who was injured. During the road blockade that started around 4 PM, several vehicles were stopped. The agitated crowd attempted to stone a passenger bus, which increased tension at the scene. During the protest, people reached the premises of the government liquor shop. The family members accused the liquor contractor’s employees of hitting (the victim) and attempted to stone (them/the shop). Police used force on protesters
Upon receiving information, SDOP Rohit Lakhare and Kotwali Police Station In-charge BL Mandloi reached the spot with police force. Police said that initially, they tried to persuade (the protesters) to remove the road blockade, but when the situation deteriorated, they had to use mild force as per rules. 5 people taken into custody, situation under control
Police have taken 4 to 5 people into custody. Deputy Collector Anil Jain was also present at the scene. After about 45 minutes, the road blockade was ended, and traffic was restored.
