Victim withdraws rape claim against BJP leader:She states only molestation and obscene remarks occurred; video of intimidation had emerged a day earlier

A new development has come in the rape case against BJP leader Ashok Singh in Rampur Baghelan, Satna. The woman who had earlier accused him of raping her at knifepoint and making a video in front of the SP on December 22, has now withdrawn her statement. On Saturday night, she told the police that she was not raped but only molested and subjected to obscene remarks. Following her statement, the police arrested Ashok Singh. He has a criminal history, with nine serious cases registered against him since 1996. Sub-Inspector Preeti Kushwaha said the victim submitted a written application saying her earlier complaint of rape and threats was made out of anger and fear. Based on the victim’s changed statements, the police took swift action. A case has been registered against accused Ashok Singh under sections 74 (outraging the modesty of a woman), 75(2) (sexual harassment), 79 (insult by word or gesture), 296(1) (obscene act), and 351(3) (threatening) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and he has been arrested.
