India women’s team captain Harmanpreet Kaur shattered the record for most wins as a captain in women’s T20Is after registering victory in the third T20I against Sri Lanka in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday. On Friday, Indian women were clinical as they clinched the five-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, going 3-0 up after the first three matches. Medium pacer Renuka Singh Thakur’s four-wicket haul and opener Shafali Verma’s blazing 79 helped India chase down 113 in just 13.2 overs. Harmanpreet Kaur becomes the most successful women’s captain in T20Is The Indian team registered an eight-wicket win vs the Sri Lankan team, and with that, Harmanpreet won 77 of her 130 matches as Women in Blue skipper. She surpassed Australia’s Meg Lanning, who won 76 of her 100 matches as the Australia skipper. It is worth noting that 130 matches as a captain is also the most by any cricketer in women’s T20I. England’s Heather Knight (71 wins in 96 matches) and Charlotte Edwards (68 wins in 93 matches) follow Harmanpreet and Lanning in the list of most wins as a captain. But it was not just Harmanpreet Kaur, who set a new record on Friday, Deepti Sharma joined the record-list as well with a unique feat. Deepti Sharma sets a unique record In the same match, star Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma became the first cricketer across the men’s and women’s game to register 1000 runs and 150 wickets in T20 International games. With a three-wicket spell, Deepti also rose to the joint-highest wicket-taker in women’s T20Is. She equalled Australia’s Megan Schutt on 151 wickets. Notably, she dismissed Sri Lanka’s Kavisha Dilhari as her landmark 150th scalp. Notably, Deepti Sharma was one of the key figures in helping India win their historic maiden ODI World Cup at home. The all-rounder from Agra, Uttar Pradesh, was awarded the Player of the Tournament for her impressive show at the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup.
