Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh said, ‘Aham Brahmasmi – the Supreme Brahman resides in me’. Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Singh was asked by Dainik Bhaskar about his visit to the Ram Temple. Having previously donated to the temple’s construction and frequently spoken about it, the question posed was: “When will you go for the Ram Temple Darshan?” Digvijaya replied, I am currently studying Adi Shankaracharya’s Advaita Vedanta, and on 25th January, I will host a lecture here by the Vice Chancellor of Ujjain Sanskrit University. In Advaita Vedanta, Aham Brahmasmi – the Supreme Brahman resides in me. Therefore, there is no need for me to go anywhere. Narayan resides in my heart. BJP MP questions Singh’s statement Bhopal MP Alok Sharma responded to Digvijaya’s statement, and said: Lord Ram, the epitome of dharma, is the center of faith and ideals for all of us. I want to ask Digvijaya Singh, if you are not going to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, will you go to Delhi’s Jama Masjid? Or to Mecca-Medina? The people of this country understand these issues. Such statements are damaging for his party and his own image. He should apologize to the Sanatan society for this kind of remark. Digvijaya Singh had donated for Ram Temple In January 2021, Digvijaya Singh had donated Rs 1,11,111 to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust via Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the construction of the Ayodhya Ram Temple. Along with the donation, he sent a letter to the Prime Minister urging that the collection of funds for the temple should be conducted in a harmonious and transparent manner, respecting the sentiments of all communities and avoiding any societal tension or division. Transparency in donations Digvijaya Singh had also requested a public account of the donations previously collected by the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP). He stated that transparency in donations would strengthen public trust. His initiative gained attention at a time when a large-scale nationwide campaign was underway to collect donations for the Ram Temple. Digvijaya emphasized that this step was guided by respect for faith, accountability, and transparency.
