On January 27, 2023, the court found Urmila guilty of her husband’s murder and sentenced her to life imprisonment and a fine of 500 rupees. Meanwhile, Urmila and tenant Rajesh Valmiki were accused in the murder case of brother-in-law Mohan. This case also ran for two years. On August 23, 2023, the Bhopal District Court sentenced both to life imprisonment.
