Jemimah Rodrigues has been named the new captain of Delhi Capitals ahead of WPL 2026. The Indian batter replaces Meg Lanning, who had led Delhi Capitals in all three editions of the WPL so far. Jemimah has been an integral part of the Delhi Capitals setup right from the first WPL season and was retained by the franchise for Rs 2.2 crore ahead of the auction this year. The 25-year-old had emerged as a candidate for captaincy after the Delhi Capitals released Lanning ahead of the WPL 2026 auction. Delhi Capitals will start their campaign in WPL 2026 against the Mumbai Indians on 10 January in Navi Mumbai. At the WPL 2026 auction, Jindal had said, “We are very clear we want an Indian as captain. We have our minds made up.” Jindal also sat down for a chat with Jemimah after she was named captain of the team ahead of WPL 2026. Jemimah was recently part of India’s historic Women’s World Cup-winning campaign in October-November this year. The right-hander has scored 507 runs and has a highest score of 69*, which came againstthe Mumbai Indians in 2024. Jemimah’s strike-rate in the tournament is 139.66 and she has three WPL fifties to her name. Delhi Capitals have made it to the final of all three WPL editions so far, but failed to win the title. The team, which made some crucial signings in Laura Wolvaardt and Chinelle Henry, among others, will look to win the trophy this time.
