England head coach Brendon McCullum wants to remain in his position despite losing the Ashes series to Australia. However, this is not in his control. McCullum said that after a disappointing performance, his future as a coach is no longer in his control. England lost the Ashes 3-0 within the first 3 Test matches. After this, questions have started to stir up about McCullum’s role. However, the former Kiwi captain’s agreement is until the 2027 ODI World Cup. When asked about his future as England coach, 44-year-old McCullum told reporters- I don’t know. It’s not really up to me, is it? I will just keep trying to do the job, try to learn the lessons that I haven’t quite got right here and make adjustments. Those questions are for someone else, not for me. Describing this role as a pretty good job, McCullum said that despite strong criticism, he is excited to perform his role well. He said- It’s a pretty good gig. It’s good fun. You travel the world with the lads and try to play some exciting cricket and try to achieve some things. England has not won a single Test match in Australia in the last 18 matches. The last time they won a series in Australia was in 2010-11. ECB’s managing director says – ‘The report will be investigated’ Meanwhile, ECB Managing Director Rob Key has promised to investigate reports which allege that players consumed excessive alcohol during a break received during the Ashes. He described such behaviour as completely unacceptable. When England was trailing 0-2 in the series, its players spent four nights at a resort in Noosa, a town in Queensland. According to Cricinfo, Key said, “If there’s things where people are saying that our players went out and drank excessively, then of course we’ll be looking into that. Drinking excessive amounts of alcohol for an international cricket team is not something that I’d expect to see at any stage, and it would be a fault not to look into what happened there. From everything that I’ve heard so far, they actually were pretty well behaved. Very well behaved.” According to the BBC, some players allegedly spent six days (two days in Brisbane and then four days in Noosa) drinking.
