The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) has revised the pay structure for the women’s domestic cricketers. The Indian cricket board’s apex council approved this hike in pay for the players after India’s ICC Women’s World Cup win on 2 November earlier this year. This move by the BCCI aims at bringing about parity in pay for the women cricketers with that of the men cricketers. The reserves will receive Rs 25,000. This is a massive rise in match fees, with the existing pay structure being Rs 20,000 per day for those in the playing XI and Rs 10,000 for the reserves. In case of T20 matches, the players, after the match fee hike, will receive Rs 25,000 per match, as compared to the existing structure, which offers Rs 20,000. Similarly, the reserves will be Rs 12,500, a rise from Rs 10,000 in the present pay structure. BCCI officials, as per PTI, have also said that a senior women’s domestic cricketer will be able to earn Rs 12 lakh and Rs 14 lakh provided she features across formats in a full season. For junior cricketers (U-23 and U-19 levels), the revised pay structure would see them receive Rs 25,000 per day, while reserves will get Rs 12,500 for multi-day and one-day matches. In case of T20s, members of the playing XI would get Rs 12,500 and the reserves would receive Rs 6,250. The match officials will earn Rs 40,000 per day for league stage games in domestic tournaments. It would increase to Rs 60,000 in case of knockout matches. The operational requirements and significance of the match will also determine the match fees. According to this new pay structure, an umpire who officiates a league match in the Ranji Trophy will earn Rs 1.60 lakh per game. It would increase to Rs 2.5 lakh and Rs 3 lakh per match in the knockout stage. Difference between salary and match fee There is a difference that lies between match fees and the salaries of players. A salary is a fixed amount that a player receives from the central contract of a cricket board. And match fees, as the name suggests, is the amount of money that players receive for a particular match that they feature in.
