Jemimah Rodrigues is set to be named the new captain of Delhi Capitals before WPL 2026. The Indian batter, who was retained by Delhi Capitals for Rs 2.2 crore, has been part of the franchise in all three editions of the WPL so far and is reportedly in line to succeed Meg Lanning in that role, as per Cricbuzz. Delhi Capitals are without a captain ahead of WPL 2026 after the franchise did not retain Meg Lanning before the auction. Lanning, who was signed by UP Warriorz at the WPL 2026 auction for Rs 1.90 crore, had led Delhi Capitals to the finals of all three WPL editions. Delhi Capitals will start their WPL 2026 campaign against the Mumbai Indians on 10 January. Delhi Capitals posted a teaser of an announcement they would make on 23 December. Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal had said that the franchise was looking to appoint an Indian captain as Lanning’s successor, ahead of WPL 2026. “We are very clear we want an Indian as captain. We have our minds made up,” he had said at the WPL 2026 auction on 27 November. In these matches, she has scored 507 runs with three fifties to her name. The right-hander has had a strike-rate of 139.66 in the WPL and her highest score is 69* off 33 balls against the Mumbai Indians in 2024.
