India’s women’s team beat Sri Lanka by 8 wickets in the first match of the T20 series. The Women in Blue chose to bowl first on Sunday in Visakhapatnam. Sri Lanka Women could only score 121 runs, losing 6 wickets. In response, India women achieved the target in the 15th over, losing just 2 wickets. Jemimah Rodrigues scored a fifty, while Smriti Mandhana made 25 runs. Three Sri Lankan batters got dismissed through run out After losing the toss and batting first at Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy Stadium, Sri Lanka women lost their captain’s wicket in the third over itself. Chamari Athapaththu was out after scoring 15 runs; she was bowled by Kranti Goud. Vishmi Gunaratne then took the team close to 50 runs with Hasini Perera. Then the latter got out after scoring 20 runs. Harshitha Samarawickrama then took the team close to 100 runs, but she was out after scoring 21 runs. Deepti Sharma and Sri Charani also took 1 wicket each. Vishmi was run out after scoring 39 runs. After her, Nilakshi de Silva and Kavisha Dilhari were also run out. Sri Lanka lost 6 wickets while scoring 121 runs. Shafali Verma was caught for 9 runs by Kawya Kavindi. Smriti Mandhana then made a fifty-run partnership with Jemimah. Smriti was dismissed for 25 runs, breaking their 54-run partnership. However, Jemimah stayed till the end, scoring a fifty and leading the team to victory along with captain Harmanpreet Kaur. Jemimah remained unbeaten on 69, and Harman on 15 runs. Inoka Ranaweera also scalped a wicket for Sri Lanka. Vaishnavi Sharma makes her debut for Indian team Left-arm spinner Vaishnavi Sharma got the opportunity to debut for India. Along with her, left-arm spinner Sri Charani was also included in the playing-11. The team also included Deepti Sharma, along with two all-rounders, Amanjot Kaur and Arundhati Reddy. Richa Ghosh got the opportunity in the wicketkeeper position.
