After clinching the ODI series 2-1, Team India went on to dominate the shortest format as well, sealing a 3-1 T20I series win against South Africa at home. While the result reflected India’s overall strength, concerns remained around the opening combination, with vice-captain Shubman Gill struggling to maintain a high strike rate. Even captain Suryakumar Yadav could not fully stamp his authority in the middle order during the series. On the positive side, the lower middle order delivered consistently. Youngsters Tilak Varma and Jitesh Sharma impressed with their composure and attacking intent, adding crucial runs when needed. Hardik Pandya, making his international comeback series debut, made an immediate impact, showcasing his trademark power-hitting from the very first match and playing a key role in India’s success. India wrapped up the series with a win in the fifth T20I at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. However, fans in Lucknow were left disappointed as the fourth T20I at the Ekana Stadium was washed out due to bad weather. The T20I triumph also helped India move past their earlier disappointment, after suffering a 0-2 Test series loss to South Africa in Kolkata and Guwahati. From Gill’s strike-rate concerns to Hardik’s explosive return and Varun Chakravarthy’s mystery spin, the series offered a clear picture of India’s current T20I setup.
