A woman living in a rented house at Amar Chowk in Narmadapuram was allegedly murdered by her live-in partner, who then attempted to pass off the killing as a suicide by hanging. Police cracked the case within three days and arrested the accused. According to the police, the accused strangled the woman using a kalawa (sacred thread) and later suspended her body with a saree to mislead investigators. Accused arrested after ‘Fake Suicide’ exposed The accused has been identified as Balram alias Golu Sen, a resident of Balaganj. He was arrested following a detailed investigation led by the Kotwali police. SDOP Jitendra Pathak said that Balram was in a live-in relationship with the deceased, Geeta Goswami, and frequently visited her rented accommodation. When Geeta’s body was found hanging on the afternoon of December 12, Balram also arrived at the spot, attempting to portray the death as a suicide. Signs of struggle raised suspicion Police and forensic science laboratory (FSL) teams examined the scene and found signs inconsistent with a case of suicide. Evidence of a struggle inside the house prompted investigators to pursue the case from a murder angle. Statements recorded from neighbours and the deceased’s daughter further strengthened the suspicion against the accused. Accused confesses during Interrogation Following sustained questioning, Balram confessed to the crime. He told police that he had visited Geeta’s house on the night of December 11, when an argument broke out between them over a personal issue. In a fit of rage, he strangled Geeta using a sacred thread. To conceal the crime, he hung her body using a saree and fled the house between 3 am and 4 am. Murder case registered Kotwali police station in-charge Kanchan Singh Thakur confirmed that a case of murder was registered against the accused late on Monday night. Balram will be produced before the court on Tuesday. Police said Geeta lived in the rented house with her daughter. A day before the incident, it was the girl’s birthday, and she had gone to her grandmother’s house for the celebrations. Geeta was alone at home that night. When the daughter returned the following afternoon, she found her mother hanging, leading to the initial assumption of suicide before police uncovered the truth.
