A 20-year-old youth fainted while trying to stop his 19-year-old girlfriend from being transferred to a shelter home in Ujjain. The couple had previously eloped from Ratlam. The incident took place at the Collectorate office on Tuesday, and his family immediately rushed him to a hospital on a moped. Girl refuse to live with her parents The youth and his girlfriend had eloped from Ratlam and signed a cohabitation agreement at a stamp office on December 2. On December 4, the girl’s parents filed a missing person report. The police later located the girl and informed her parents. When her parents arrived at the police station to take her home, the girl refused to stay with them, expressing her wish to live with the youth. However, since the boy is under 21 years old, authorities decided, in accordance with legal regulations, to transfer the girl to a One-Stop Centre in Ujjain. Orders to send the girl to the Ujjain shelter On Tuesday, the One-Stop Centre administrator Neeta Parihar presented the girl before Additional Collector Dr. Shalini Srivastava. She was informed that under the law, the youth must be at least 21 years old to marry. Consequently, the girl was sent to the Ujjain shelter. Youth chases vehicle, faints The youth, accompanied by his family, arrived at the collectorate upon learning about the girl’s transfer. He started crying and pleading not to separate them. The girl also cried. When the administrator tried to seat the girl in the vehicle, the youth ran after it and tried to stop it. In the process, he fainted and fell, and his family rushed him to the hospital. Family alleges forced transfer The youth’s mother and sister claimed that he is an adult, they have known each other for four years, and have already had a court marriage. They alleged that authorities were forcing the girl to be sent to Ujjain. Authorities clarify legal procedure One-Stop Centre administrator Neeta Parihar clarified that the girl is 19 years and 10 months, while the boy is 20 years old. Since he is under 21 and the girl did not want to stay with her parents, she was legally sent to the Ujjain shelter. Additional Collector Dr. Shalini Srivastava informed that the girl did not voluntarily express a desire to leave immediately with the youth, and hence the transfer followed regulatory procedures.
