Tall claims of the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College (MGM) administration to tighten hospital security appear to have fallen flat. Even as authorities enforce a strict crackdown on food distribution and movement inside the campus in the name of preventing rat infestation, open alcohol consumption has been captured on video inside the premises, raising questions over the effectiveness and intent of the measures. Alcohol consumption caught on camera in doctors’ parking zone A video from Saturday night shows two men drinking beside a Rajasthan-registered car parked behind MY Hospital, the designated parking area for doctors. The incident reportedly occurred around 7.30 pm. Despite being in full public view, no security guards intervened, nor did any doctors passing by object. Patients and attendants walked past the scene, many expressing discomfort and insecurity. It is suspected that the individuals drinking could be college students or acquaintances of hospital staff. According to sources, the youths seen drinking liquor are friends of a doctor posted in the hospital. Food ban and sealed gates, yet liquor flows freely Hospitals associated with MGM Medical College have stopped allowing people to bring food for their admitted patients, citing rat control measures. All entry and exit points have been sealed, and security guards are frisking attendants with metal detectors. Families now wait outside on the roadside to receive food being distributed by social groups. The sweeping restrictions, however, stand in stark contrast to the unchecked alcohol consumption inside the campus, prompting criticism that enforcement appears selective and poorly supervised. Liquor-free campus claims under question Dean Dr Arvind Ghanghoria has frequently asserted that the college and hostels remain liquor-free zones. But empty liquor bottles spotted across the premises and repeated complaints from students suggest otherwise. The latest video has renewed scrutiny of the administration’s claims. Past incident at AIIMS-Bhopal adds to concerns Just a month ago, AIIMS Bhopal faced a similar controversy when four doctors were caught drinking near the emergency gate. The situation escalated when police intervened, and videos later surfaced showing the doctors misbehaving with officers. Hospital administration promises probe MY Hospital Superintendent Dr Ashok Yadav acknowledged receiving information about the incident: If such an incident has occurred, it will be investigated. If any hospital staff member is found involved, action will be taken.
