A shocking incident in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh, has left the family of RPF jawan PK Mishra shattered. Mishra, 43, was shot dead by his old friend and colleague, Constable KS Lader, at the RPF post. The attack ended a 23-year friendship and destroyed the dreams of Mishra’s family. Friend turns murderer The attack took place early Wednesday morning. Mishra was sitting on a chair at the Raigarh RPF post when Lader, from the 2002 batch, took a pistol from the armory and fired four shots at him. Three bullets hit Mishra’s head and neck. The fourth grazed near his right eye. Mishra died instantly. Lader remained at the spot with the pistol in hand and admitted to the shooting. GRP police arrested him immediately. Funeral with guard of honour On Friday, Mishra was cremated with a Guard of Honour at his native village in Rewa. His 19-year-old son Deep lit the pyre with trembling hands. His wife Shashikala remained unconscious, while his 15-year-old daughter Deepika cried throughout the ceremony. Family speaks of grief Shashikala said the family’s dreams ended with Mishra’s death. He had always spoken of educating his children and celebrating milestones in life. “In a moment, our happy home was destroyed. Life will never be the same,” she said. They served together in Raigarh for over four years. Both were due for transfer in February 2026. But the friendship ended in blood. Accused had controversial past Investigation revealed that Lader had a history of misconduct. In 2019, he threatened a superior officer with a sword in Bilaspur. He was jailed for two years and later reinstated. Lader had been posted in Raigarh after his return. Details of the shooting Forensic officer P.S. Bhagat said three bullets passed through Mishra’s head near the ear and throat. The fourth bullet grazed his right eye. One live cartridge and three empty casings were recovered from the spot. Minor dispute led to rage Initial investigation suggests the murder happened after a minor disagreement at night. Lader allegedly became enraged and shot Mishra in a fit of anger. Blood stains and bullet marks were found at the post. Police investigation underway RPF IG Munawwar Khurshid said CCTV footage, documents, and weapons from the post have been seized.
