November breaks 84-year cold record in MP:Temperatures may drop below 5°C in December; Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain to face intense chill

Madhya Pradesh experienced unusually cold weather in November. Bhopal recorded 5.2°C, the lowest in 84 years. Indore saw its coldest November in 25 years. Experts say December will also be very cold. Night temperatures in many cities may drop below 5°C. A cold wave is expected to affect Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior, and Chambal divisions the most. Severe cold usually starts from December 20 and continues until January. This trend has been observed for the past ten years. This year, icy winds from northern states will make temperatures drop further. The coldest regions will be Ujjain and Gwalior-Chambal divisions. How winter broke records in November Winter set new records in November. Bhopal experienced a cold wave for 15 consecutive days—the longest since 1931. On the night of 17 November, the temperature dropped to 5.2°C. The previous record was 6.1°C on 30 November 1941. Indore also faced record lows. The mercury fell to 6.4°C, the coldest night in 25 years. Northern states received early snowfall in the first week of November. Cold winds from these regions reached Madhya Pradesh, causing a sharp drop in temperature. Later, changes in wind direction slightly reduced the cold effect. December and January: Peak cold months December and January are the coldest months in the state. Meteorologists compare them to July and August for rainfall—these months regularly experience severe cold. During this period, cold winds from North India reach Madhya Pradesh more frequently. Western Disturbances also become active. They bring light rain, called “Mawtha,” which increases daytime cold. Experts expect strong northerly winds and Western Disturbances to lower temperatures further this December.
