In Sagar, police stations responsible for controlling crime are themselves accused of supporting illegal trade. Kajlivan and Karila areas have turned into drug hubs. Liquor boxes are allegedly sold from the station whenever someone demands them. A spa next to the Municipal Corporation office is said to be running a prostitution racket. Four to five customers reportedly visit there daily. Gambling also continues in Makronia and Sadar. Bhaskar investigation shows police involvement Bhaskar spent two months checking activities in these four police station areas. The findings suggest that police staff were helping the illegal business. Shockingly, drug suppliers were minors. When asked for drugs, these minors went inside the police station to bring them. Despite this, station in-charges rejected all allegations. Sting Operation Findings Sting 1: Liquor box arranged from police station Date: 15 November at 8 PM Bhaskar’s team reached Baheria police station. They asked TI Gajendra Singh for a box of good-quality liquor for a wedding. The next afternoon, the team returned. ₹13,000 was paid to the driver of the police department’s contracted vehicle inside the station premises. The driver went in the same vehicle to collect more liquor and returned with bottles. The driver said openly, “Earlier we had freedom, now nothing happens without the officer’s permission.” Later, TI Baheria denied the allegations and said no such activity takes place. Sting 2: Minor brings drugs from police station Date: 31 October, afternoon At Motinagar Chauraha, a minor stood near the bus stop with his face covered. When the team asked for “maal” (drugs), he immediately showed five packets from his pocket. The team asked for 15 packets. The minor went straight inside Motinagar police station. He returned after some time while talking on the phone. In Karila and Kajlivan lanes, 3–4 minors were seen standing to sell drugs daily. Motinagar TI Jaswant Singh denied the allegation, saying that no such complaint had been received. He asked for evidence for an inquiry. Sting 3: Prostitution racket at spa next to Municipal office Date: 16 November Bhaskar’s team visited Lake View Spa, situated next to the building of the Municipal Corporation office in Gopalganj area. On 1 November, the team paid ₹1,500 and was allowed inside. A room lit with red light was shown. A young woman, who gave her name as Sangeeta and said she was from Nepal, offered “full service” for Rs 4,000. On 16 November, the receptionist Gagan told the team on call: “There was trouble at another spa. The TI asked us to shut for a few days. Police supports us.” However, TI Rajendra Singh Kushwaha denied this and claimed “no sex trade was taking place”. IG orders inquiry IG Himani Khanna said she will get the matter investigated before giving any opinion. SP Sagar Vikas Kumar Sahwal said any illegal activity will be stopped.
