The DSP was accused of cheating a tribal woman from Chhattisgarh of 72 lakh rupees in the name of giving her a job. The DSP was also someone who had 2.2 million, or about 22 lakh, followers on social media. When the Chhattisgarh police confronted the DSP, it was revealed that a contractor had carried out the fraud by using the DSP’s photo. Chhattisgarh Police was searching for the DSP in Gwalior Actually, Assistant Commandant Santosh Patel, currently posted in MP’s Balaghat Hawk Force, received a phone call informing him that a Sub-Inspector from Chhattisgarh Police was looking for him. Santosh Patel was posted as a DSP in Gwalior until last year. Santosh called the Chhattisgarh Police SI to Balaghat. In Balaghat, the Chhattisgarh Police team discussed with DSP Santosh Patel. DSP Santosh Patel spoke with SI Virasat Kujur, ASI Ramesh Tiwari, Deepak Bada, Constable Dhirendra Chandel, and SDOP Immanuel Lakra of Kusumi police station in Chhattisgarh. When Santosh looked at the documents related to the case, he found an application regarding fraud committed against a woman. It had a photo of Santosh Patel wearing a uniform. Seeing this, Santosh Patel was stunned for a moment. He immediately understood that his photo had been used in this fraud. Woman not ready to believe Santosh Patel said that after reviewing the case file, he spoke to the tribal woman, who was a victim of fraud, via video call. However, the woman repeatedly insisted that he was the one who took 72 lakh rupees from her. But, during the video call conversation, the woman said that he never showed his face while talking on the phone, and today he is showing his face out of fear of the police. It was then that the Chhattisgarh Police also understood that the mastermind of this fraud was someone else. Contractor from Sidhi turned out to be the real culprit Santosh Patel stated that in this case, after talking to him, the Chhattisgarh Police investigated deeply and found out that 29-year-old Santosh Patel, a resident of Padkhuri Pachokhar in Churhat police station area of Sidhi district, MP, is a JCB operator. In 2016, Santosh Patel was a JCB operator for a sub-contractor working on road construction for A Sai Company in Samri, Jaljali, and Shrikot in Chhattisgarh. Lalki Bai, a resident of Kanjia village, used to come to graze goats in the forests near the camp set up at the construction site. One day, Santosh Patel took Lalki Bai’s mobile number. Meanwhile, the road construction work was completed, and Santosh returned to his village. A few days later, Santosh called Lalki Bai and told her that he had become a DSP in the MP Police. He said, “I will get both your sons jobs in the police. I also got my job by paying money; if you pay, I will get your children recruited into the police as well.” 7.2 Million Scammed in 7 Years According to Chhattisgarh Police, Santosh Patel, a JCB operator from Sidhi, scammed tribal woman Lalki Bai of approximately 7.2 million rupees through PhonePe from 2018 to 2025.
