Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has joined Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as the Assistant Coach for the upcoming TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. KKR made the official announcement on Wednesday, welcoming the World Cup-winning cricketer to their coaching staff. Known for his vast international experience, leadership skills, and deep understanding of franchise cricket, Watson’s addition is expected to bring great value to the team. Watson, one of the most accomplished all-rounders of his generation, represented Australia in 59 Tests, 190 ODIs, and 58 T20 Internationals, scoring more than 10,000 runs and taking over 280 wickets across formats. He played a key role in Australia’s victories in the 2007 and 2015 ICC World Cups and was part of numerous memorable series wins around the world. Watson also had a remarkable IPL career from 2008 to 2020, playing 145 matches and scoring four centuries. After retiring from cricket, the Australian legend smoothly transitioned into coaching and mentorship roles in various global T20 leagues, earning praise for his tactical knowledge and ability to develop young players.
