Security has been intensified in Kolkata ahead of the first Test between India and South Africa, beginning at Eden Gardens on 14 November. The heightened alert comes after a high-intensity blast near Delhi’s Red Fort killed nine people and injured 20 others on Monday evening. Both teams have already arrived in the city and will remain under enhanced protection throughout their stay. Comprehensive security plan for players and venues Kolkata Police have drawn up an elaborate security plan covering the Indian and South African squads, including their travel routes, practice sessions and match days. Special NAKA checks and strict surveillance have been launched around the Eden Gardens, with officers stationed at all major entry and exit points. The details have been confirmed as per a report carried by India Today. In addition, Police Commissioner Manoj Verma is expected to visit the stadium on Tuesday to personally review the arrangements. CAB, police coordinate to ensure safety The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) is working closely with police officials to implement robust safety protocols for players, officials and spectators. Security at the team hotels has also been tightened, with restricted access and continuous monitoring. A joint meeting between CAB and senior police officers was held to finalise operational details and discuss additional precautionary steps in light of the Delhi blast. Blast probe continues in Delhi The explosion near Red Fort occurred around 6:52 pm when a slow-moving vehicle halted at a traffic signal. According to Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha, “An explosion happened in that vehicle, and nearby vehicles were also damaged.” Investigators recovered explosive chemicals from the site, which officials said were meant to “spread terror across Delhi.” Out of the nine victims, two have been identified, while seven remain unidentified.
